WordSen
Learn 1,000 Japanese words without losing motivation. Spaced-repetition flashcards, a virtual fox to take care of, and a finish line that's actually within reach.
What it is
WordSen is for English speakers learning Japanese who already know hiragana and katakana and want to build real vocabulary. The whole app is built around one number: 1,000 words. That's roughly the threshold where casual conversation starts to click.
How it works
- Study a small daily set of flashcards using spaced repetition
- Each correct review earns energy and koins
- Spend energy to feed and play with your Kitsune (a fox spirit from Japanese folklore)
- Spend koins to decorate the Kitsune's house
- Add your own words from anywhere — Spy x Family, Pimsleur, that sign you saw on the street
Why we built it
Most Japanese learning apps throw infinite words at you with no end in sight, and then watch you burn out. WordSen is opinionated about scope — a clear list, a clear goal, and a small game built around the habit so you keep showing up even on the days you don't feel like it.
Where it lives
The full marketing site, beta signup, dev blog, and roadmap are at wordsen.com. The app itself is in private beta on iOS as of May 2026.
