Privacy Policy
Plain-language privacy policy covering MapleKingdom and all its apps.
MapleKingdom is a small, independent iOS studio. We're not in the business of selling your data. Honestly, we don't want your data beyond what's needed to make the apps work and answer your messages.
This single privacy policy covers the MapleKingdom website and every app the studio publishes. App-specific details are called out where they differ.
Who this applies to
This policy applies to:
- The MapleKingdom website (this site, maplekingdom.com)
- Every iOS app published under the MapleKingdom developer account, including WordSen
- Any future MapleKingdom app, unless its app-specific section below says otherwise
What information we collect
From the website
This website doesn't use cookies or analytics. We don't know who visits, how long they stay, or what pages they look at. The site loads Google Fonts, which means Google's servers see your IP address when the fonts load — that's standard for most websites, but worth being upfront about.
If you fill out the contact form, your name, email, and message are sent through Formspree to our inbox so we can reply.
From WordSen (the app)
WordSen requires an account so your study progress can sync across devices. The app collects:
- Email address — for sign-in and to contact you about your account
- Display name (optional) — only if you choose to set one
- Study data — flashcards you've reviewed, ratings, schedule, custom cards, and Kitsune game state
- Voice recordings (transient) — when you create a card by voice, the audio is sent to OpenAI Whisper for transcription. Audio is not retained after transcription
- Photos you attach to cards — stored in your account on Firebase Storage
- Crash and diagnostic data — to help me fix bugs
- Feature usage analytics — anonymized event counts (e.g. "study session started") via PostHog, used to improve the app
WordSen does not collect: contacts, location, microphone audio outside of card creation, photos beyond what you attach, browsing history, or anything else not listed above.
From future apps
When the studio launches a new app, its specific data practices will be added to this policy before the app ships.
How we use your information
- To make the app work (sync your progress, sign you in, sync your Kitsune)
- To respond to messages you send us
- To fix bugs and improve features (using anonymized analytics and crash reports)
- To send beta-related emails, if you signed up for the WordSen beta
We don't use your data for advertising, profiling, or any kind of automated decision-making.
What we never do
- Sell your data to anyone
- Share your data with advertisers or marketers
- Run third-party ads inside any app
- Track you across other websites or apps
- Build a profile of you for any commercial purpose
Third-party services
These services process data on our behalf to make the apps and website work. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Firebase (Google) — authentication, real-time database, storage, hosting
- OpenAI — voice transcription (Whisper) and text-to-speech for WordSen card creation
- Anthropic — AI features inside WordSen (Oracle Q&A, card report processing)
- Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — beta email signups for WordSen
- Formspree — contact form delivery
- PostHog — anonymized in-app feature analytics
- Vercel — website hosting
- Google Fonts — typography on this website
We require these providers to handle data with at least the same level of care described in this policy.
Data retention
We keep your account data as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data is removed within 30 days. Anonymized analytics may persist longer because it's not tied to you.
How to delete your data
You can delete your account and all associated data at any time. See the account deletion page for step-by-step instructions for each app.
If you'd like a copy of your data before deleting, email us and we'll export it for you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws like GDPR (EU/UK) or CCPA (California):
- Access — request a copy of the data we have about you
- Correction — ask us to fix anything that's wrong
- Deletion — ask us to remove your data
- Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent — for anything you previously opted into
To exercise any of these, email ben@maplekingdom.com. We'll respond within 30 days.
Children's privacy
None of our apps are directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you're a parent and believe a child has used an app, email us and we'll delete the data.
International data transfers
MapleKingdom is based in the United States and most of our service providers operate in the US. If you use the apps from outside the US, your data is transferred to the US for processing.
Changes to this policy
If we change anything material, we'll update the "last updated" date at the top and, for significant changes, give notice in the app or by email. Continued use after a change means you accept the new version.
